Invitation

10 10 2008

There seems to be a real focus for us worship leaders, to vocalize an invitation for God to take His place among us at our gatherings. To make it known from the platform that we extend an invitation to Him, encouraging our respective church families to do the same (in the heart, if not with the mouth). We say, “Jesus, we want you here. We invite your presence.”  Or something of the like.

It is my belief that God is calling out to us.  I hear Jesus saying with all the passion he possesses, “Come!  Come to me!  Come to me, you WEARY SOULS!! Come and EAT!! Sit at my table- COME TO ME!!!”

Now, obviously my words and punctuation do not do any justice at all to the passion of Jesus.  But the point is, it seems like we have this complex sometimes about making sure Jesus knows he is invited- and I am all for that! I do it myself, and I believe there is something to it.

I think that as much as we try to extend that hand of invitation, we can easily lose sight of how badly, how passionately HE wants to meet with US.  His heart is near to bursting with desire for us, to cast our cares upon Him. To come broken, to come hungry and eat our fill. He longs for us to taste and see His goodness.

I see a Jesus who is up off His feet, red in the face- looking deeply into our eyes.
